My name is Peter and I served as a signalman aboard HMS Arum throughout the Battle of the Atlantic. Our task was to escort the convoys of merchant vessels carrying vital supplies of food and war materials. Without these Great Britain would have been unable to continue fighting and we might have lost the war. It was a battle we won because we had to, although it cost the lives of no less than 30,000 merchant seamen.
