On 3 September 1939, Britain went to war against Germany and its allies. As British men left home to fight, thousands of women from all over the country volunteered to farm the land. By 1943, 87,000 women had joined the Women's Land Army. In this book, five women who served as "land girls" tell us what their lives were like working in the countryside during the Second World War.
'The 'My War' series brings history to life. In each title people whose lives were change by the Second World War tell their stories. The text is illustrated by historical photographs, as well as personal documents and photographs that have never been published before.
