The last millennium has not been a great success. We have advanced in science and technology, but not much in human behaviour. There has been war, persecution, conflict, discrimination, injustice and poverty. Is it possible that this has been due to poor thinking? Edward de Bono believes that we have indeed been let down by excellent but limited ways of thinking. He maintains that the thinking of the last millennium has been concerned with what is. This is the thinking of analysis, criticism and argument. What we have not sufficiently developed is the thinking concerned with what can be. This is thinking that is creative and constructive. This is thinking that seeks to solve conflicts and problems by designing a way forward. The emphasis is on design, not judgement. In New Thinking for the New Millennium Edward de Bono shows how and why adopting this new thinking is the only way we can move forward and make use of the opportunities offered by science and technology.
