In the late 1960s, 50-year-old David Berg founded a sect based on the teachings of fundamentalist Christianity and the Sixties' principles of free love. Known as The Children of God, the organisation grew to be one of the most widespread cults in the world, with communes across the globe.
But the experiences of children such as Kristina, Celeste and Juliana were a world away from the traditional Christian understanding of 'love' and 'forgiveness'. The organisation that was entrusted with their care and upbringing practiced physical and mental torture, thought control, prostitution, incest and paedophilia.
The three girls were separated from each other and their mothers at an early age and lived in various missions throughout the world under the 'care' of various foster parents.
