As the year 2000 dawned, the first thing many of us did was check to see whether our computers were still working! This sets the tone for the coming decade; once we realised that our fears of the Millenium bug were unfounded, there were plenty more to keep us occupied, and scared. From the spectre of global terrorism to the threat of global warming, from the crouching dragon of China to the growling bear of Russia, from the alleged Satanic subplots of Harry Potter to Simon Cowell's shark-like grimace, the noughties were, for many, a decade that changed the world.
