Z.E.N.works is a component of NetWare 5. It is a workstation management program that controls the applications, icons, backgrounds, access rights, and so forth of all desktop on the network from a single point of administration. This book focuses on administering and troubleshooting that portion of the network operating system. The trick is that Z.E.N.works goes through Novell Directory Services (NDS), and this book shows how to leverage the power of NDS through Z.E.N.works.

Network administrators are shown how to make Microsoft's "policy packages" and turn them into objects on the NDS tree. It covers NDS implementation of Microsoft's ZAK (Zero Administration Kit), ZAW (Zero Administration Workstation), and Poledit, which defines the access rights and look of desktops. Administrators are also given complete instructions for using snAppShot, a Novell utility for creating applications that can be distributed to selected desktops on the network.

The CD-ROM includes a Z.E.N.works Starter Pack and exclusive Novell utilities for creating workstation applications.
