Francis Orme lives in Observatory Mansions with his eccentric parents and a collection of social misfits. By day Francis is a street performer, earning money as a white living sculpture, and these static skills also lead to work as a model in the city waxworks where he is a popular exhibit.
Francis cannot bear to take off his white gloves, as that would mean breaking his self-imposed rules about physical contact. He also steals objects of little value, provided they are emotionally invaluable to the owner, hiding them in his 'Exhibition of Love'.
Then the arrival of a new resident, Anna Tap, throws Francis's carefully controlled world into turmoil. . .
