April 1940, and in the snow-covered valleys of Norway, the poorly-armed and equipped British troops are being forced into a humiliating retreat in this, their first battle with the Germans in World War II. Cut off from the rest of his battalion, Sergeant Jack Tanner and his patrol of Yorks Rangers find themselves being drawn in to a desperate mission - to help smuggle some of the Norwegian King Haakon's treasures out of German hands and to safety. Compounding Tanner's problems is the uneasy alliance with some French troops of the Chassuers Alpins, and their arrogant commander, Lieutenant Chevannes. With the Germans dogging their every move, Tanner soon realises there must be more to the cache they are protecting than he first thought. The odds are stacked against them, but with skill, determination and ingenuity, Tanner is resolved to get them all to safety and to protect the King's secret.
