Forced from their home following the announcement of President Robert Mugabe's land reform program, and facing eviction after eviction at neighbouring farms, Mandy Retzlaff and her family decide to head for the safety of the Mozambique border. During this journey they discover empty properties with abandoned horses, left behind by fleeing farm owners to face starvation or a brutal death from an angry mob.Not knowing whether they will be able to feed or save them, the Retzlaff's amass a herd of over 300 horses. However, the family's final journey to freedom will be arduous and they can take only 104. This is the story of an idyllic existence gone wrong, and a moving account of incredible bonds - a love of the land, the strength of a family, and the connection between man and the most majestic of animals, the horse.
