'One Hundred Saints' is a glorious celebration of the stories and pictures of some of the best-known and most-loved saints in history. The text is adapted from the Rev. Alban Butler's long revered 'Lives Of The Saints' and reveals much about the history and lore that surrounds these true-life figures.
Butler's sources ranged from the New Testament to 'The Golden Legend', firsthand accounts of witnesses and letters from the pens of the saints themselves. The resulting narrative tells of men and women steeped in knowledge or little educated; worldly or reclusive; of great physical courage or removed from the cares and stresses of everyday life.
Martyrs, scholars, politicians, innovators, monks, nuns, priests, kings and queens - all have one common trait: a life devoted to their religion. The works of art have been selected to represent events narrated by the text and to honor the subjects with their great beauty.
