Part of the 'Milner Craft' series
There are more than 25 design plates included in this book, each reproduced in colour and with clear graphs that show each pattern line by line. The basic techniques used in smocking are explained, including how to hand pleat. The instructions for basic stitches used in smocking are accompanied by simple diagrams, making them even easier to follow.
There is a section on smocking for adults' garments, as well as for boys and girls, including guidelines and suggestions on patterns that are most appropriate to use for smocking. The smocking designs are suitable for both pastels and bright fabrics, and include beaded designs and decorative ribbon threading, as well as some ribbon embroidery. You'll also find stacking, or picture, designs - alphabets, hearts, butterflies, a dolphin and a seaplane. The more versatile counterchange smocking is also explained.
