Craig McMillan, a player who had been gifted international cricket selection for New Zealand from the age of 21, began his career productively but his destructive batting perhaps promised more than he delivered. While his career has had its share of glittering highlights, it has also been punctuated with no small amount of controversy. He found himself on the outer after the 2003 World Cup but worked his way back into New Zealand's ODI side just in time to earn selection for the 2007 tournament in the Caribbean. His 10 year career was, however, peppered with being dropped from the team and then back in, finding form then ever so quickly losing it. The ICC World Twenty20 was to be his final international tournament, as he announced his retirement at the age of 31 in October 2007.
