The Extraordinary Life of P L Travers, Creator of Mary Poppins.
The world of P L (Pamela) Travers was as mysterious, magical and extraordinary as that of her creation, the timeless nanny Mary Poppins. Born Helen Lyndon Goff in Queensland in 1899, Travers became an actress, a journalist, a poet and finally the writer of one of the twentieth century's finest fairytales. She travelled widely, knew many of the famous characters of her generation, and lived until the age of 96.
In 'Out Of The Sky She Came' acclaimed journalist Valerie Lawson has unearthed the marvellous, previously untold story of one of Australia's hidden legends.
Shortlisted for the 1999 Nita B Kibble Award.
