This is the story of Leo Young's attempts to find out the truth about Pagan, the child who has been left in his care following the death of her mother Candida. Leo is gay and has know Pagan since her birth, but in his attempts to stay with the child who calls him 'Daddy', it is more than prejudice that stands in his way. And, as he begins to learn the truth about Pagan's birth and ancestry, both Leo and the reader are plunged into a world where definitions of father hood and the nuclear family are brilliantly and incisively challenged.
