This monograph is being published to mark the exhibition Paolo Canevari - Nobody Knows curated by Germano Celant. The exhibition has gathered together some of Canevari's foremost artworks supported by various media, from videos to the sculptures created with rubber from inner tubes and tires, and the performance created specially by the artist which, for an hour during the opening ceremony, involved a figure reminiscent of the Little Prince balancing on top of one of his many works entitled Globe. This book, which contains 650 images, a text written by the curator and comments by the artist, describes the influences, the input and the motivations behind Canevari's artistic output. Paolo Canevari was brought up in a family where his grandfather was a mosaicist, and his father and uncle were both sculptors. He is interested in the icons which, from the post-war period to the present day, have formed the memory of Italian culture. However, he subjects them to an anti-nostalgic treatment, in which the material used to depict them recalls the crisis and decadence of a civilisation. Canevari's works are on display and feature in the collections of some of the world's leading events and museums: the Venice Biennale, The MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) and the P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center in New York, the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin, Villa Medici in Rome, the Contemporary Art Museum of Johannesburg, and many more. Text in English AItalian. SELLING POINTS: Traces Paolo Canevari's life chronologically, and illustrates works from different moments in his life ILLUSTRATIONS 658 colour X40 b/w illustrations
