Childhood friends Palamon and Arcite are jailed in Athens for their part in the terrible war with Thebes. When they glimpse the beautiful Emilia from a prison window, both men fall immediately in love. Out of jail, the two old friends are swiftly set against one another, and the battle for Emilia's heart may claim more than one casualty, in Shakespeare's haunting and elegiac final play.
