Illustrated by David McPhail.
Thinking it will please Mother, Peter Rabbit gathers excess eggs from his neighbours to give to her. When Peter accidentally knocks over several jars of paint, the eggs are splashed with all the colours of the rainbow. But Mother Rabbit is not pleased, and she instructs Peter to return the eggs. He does so, delighting all the children of the neighbourhood. Inventing a new tradition, Peter Rabbit becomes the Easter Bunny.
