Trevor and Sam are nearly identical in appearance, but their lives couldn't be any more different if one was filmed in black and white and the other in brilliant, vivid Technicolor.

Trevor's father is a film industry mogul, his mother a movie star. And Trevor himself? He has a lead role in a major TV series, and spends his time off set living in a Bel Aire mansion with its own pool, bowling alley, video arcade, and a soda fountain. But for a kid who has everything, he still feels he lacks the one thing he truly wants: the opportunity to play baseball for real.

Sam's life is down in the dumps-literally. He and his father live in a ramshackle house, usually filled with the odor of the nearby landfill. The one highlight in a life filled with making ends meet, shabby clothes, and work, is playing baseball. And though his father's dream is to see one of his movie scripts green-lighted, Sam has no desire to be part of the Hollywood scene. When his father signs him up as a stand-in for Trevor to make some much needed money, everyone takes notice of the uncanny resemblance between the two boys. Each has what the other wants, and so they agree to trade places, allowing Sam to enjoy Trevor's "easy life" and Trevor to serve as his stand-in on the baseball diamond. But when their plan comes to light, and Trevor doesn't want to go back to his old life, the boys come to realize that more than their happiness and futures are at stake.
