The Geographical Roots of Britain's Place-Names
'Place-Names in the Landscape' examines the key physical features that have shaped the names of places down the centuries. The themes that emerge show the rich heritage of English place-names and the elements of which they are composed. Hills and valleys, trees and forests, roads and tracks, marshes and moors, ploughland and pasture, rivers and lakes - these and many other features are shown to be reflected in a myriad of familiar and unfamiliar names that in one form or another have survived centuries of history and change.
