Every arm of politics, at some stage, wants to claim Orwell's masterpiece as their own. And many pejorative political terms were coined here. But, if you read it, you'll realise that the novel can't be safely pushed in any one particular political direction. It remains an elusive 20th century parable of totalitarian power and humanity in degeneration; a culture, collapsed. It improves every read. - Jeremy (QBD)

This nightmarish tale follows the life of Winston Smith as he struggles to navigate his daily life in a dystopian, totalitarian society, ever under the watchful and threatening eye of the Party. As Winston longs for truth, he meets Julia, and they both find the courage to secretly rebel and begin an illicit love affair. Horrifying and riveting, this book is a must-read. - Kirstie (QBD)
