Pup is a kelpie and although he is happy-go-lucky at heart, his spirit has been all but broken by his cruel owner. It takes the love and friendship of a boy called Jack to bring the kelpie back to his happy self. However, it isn't so much what the boy can do for the dog, as what the dog does for the boy that is the heart of the story.
