Rickie the chimpanzee was born in the rain forest of Central Africa. She lived with her mother, happy and safe... until the day the hunters came. Rickie was taken from her mother and put up for sale at a Congolese market. Luckily for her, she was rescued by a kind man who knew that selling infant chimpanzees was illegal. The kind man adopted Rickie and took good care of her, but while he was away at work she was often lonely.
And then she made a very unexpected friend...
This true story includes a postscript from Dr Jane Goodall about her Tchimpounga Sanctuary in the Congo Republic, where Rickie still lives today.
