A True Life Journey.

'Riding The Bus With My Sister' is inspired by this autobiographical book by Rachel Simon. In the film, Rachel is played by Andie MacDowell. Her developmentally challenged sister, Beth, is played by O'Donnell.

The two sisters – Beth and Rachel – live very different lives. Rachel is a successful, driven fashion photographer in New York City. Beth spends her days riding public buses in the medium-sized northeastern city in which she lives.

When their father dies, Rachel comes home to be with her sister for what's supposed to be a short visit. Initially the two women spar: Rachel tries to impose her views and values on Beth; Beth dismisses Rachel as an insensitive intruder in what for her is a relatively happy, satisfying life.

As time passes, they at first reach an uneasy truce, then a loving understanding.
