When J.P. Beaumont was a young rookie working with his first partner in homicide Adam Gurkey, aka Pickles, things took a turn for the worse. One evening, at the end of their shift, Beau and Pickles decided to stop in at the Doghouse Diner for a bite to eat. When Pickles goes out to the parking lot, he encounters a whole world of trouble. When he stumbles upon a murder, he simultaneously suffers a heart attack.
When the police arrive they find a very incriminating crime scene, with Pickles conveniently dead near the victim. Faced with the evidence the police immediately blame Pickles. But Beau knows better and with the help of his friends on the force, he will stop at nothing to find the real killer.
