Life for fifteen-year-old Valerie is pretty good. Her grades are fine, she's got great friends, and a cute boy has been asking about her. What could be better? But then, in less than a week, everything changes!
First, her mother announces that she's leaving Valerie's father to go and live with her girlfriend - then, just as Valerie is dealing with this bombshell, her father lets slip that he's been given a new job as protocol chief for the royal family of some obscure European country. So now, with everything turned totally upside down, Valerie has to decide whether to stay in Virginia with her mum and her uber-organised, veggie-burger-eating girlfriend, or move away with her dad, leaving all she knows behind for somewhere she's never even heard of. Valerie opts to go with her dad, but soon decides that was a huge mistake - until she meets her very own prince . . .
