Here Rob Maylor tells the no-holds-barred story of his years on the front lines, from his early service with the Royal Marine in Northern Ireland, then from 2003 in the elite Australian SAS.

As one of Australia’s most highly trained and successful combat marksmen, he saw action in East Timor, Iraq and most recently in Afghanistan where he won medals for gallantry in some of the heaviest fighting in the conflict. He tells of his near-death experience in the Blackhawk helicopter that crashed off Fiji, killing two of his mates. He was also in the personal security detail of the East Timorese President, Xanana Gusmao and the Chief of the Australian Defence Force, Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston.

Rob Maylor tells of his dedication to ‘the dark art of sniping’ and touches on the history of the great snipers who came before him. It isfilled with the rough humour and the almost religious sense of mateship of the SAS regiment.
SAS SNIPER covers Rob’s two tours of Afghanistan in 2007 and 2008, where he was repeatedly in action and where his comrades were killed and wounded. It was there that he took part in the action that saw his mate Mark Donaldson awarded the VC; and Rob himself was wounded and won his own medal for gallantry under fire.

Not the best almost the worst
The military life of an SAS CDO, a one sided account of his time in Northern Ireland and various other deployments told with a degree of cynicism and selfishness that makes it hard to like the author. Good pictures though.

SAS Sniper
This book is an eye opener to anyone interested in the SAS. I am an ex service man, I did not pass my selection course for 4RAR but got straight into the SAS and was able to be there for some of these tales myself. Nice one mate.

SAS Sniper
Very interesting read, I did like to read about the exploits of the SAS in Afghanistan. This book is the epitome of the SAS soldier, you have done some good work but unfortunately is let down by a negative attitude.

poor and unreliable
This is a book written by a soldier who thrives on controversy and a story line involving himself single handedly fixing most problems whilst berating his team mates for their inaction. Even a poor book can usually cause the media agencies to turn the author into an expert regardless of the content, this is evident by his continued involvement in the media on subjects he has no right to comment on.

SAS Sniper
I found this book very interesting and quite different to other war stories. Robert has done an excellent job of transferring his experiences in the armed services onto the pages for us to enjoy.

Very Good read
I enjoyed the book very much being an ex service man of 4RAR I felt that he had some valid points about the right hand not talking to the left. I to always wanted to be an SAS soldier but did not pass my selection course and then not long after that left the army due to many bad points that never change. Very good read and gives you and insight into the SAS snipers and how being on operations really are.
