Agnes Day is a twenty-something sub-editor and failure extraordinaire, with a close circle of friends and a habit of falling for the wrong man.Terminally middle-class, incurably romantic and chronically confused by life's most basic equations, Agnes hovers on the cusp of adolescence and adulthood, privately convinced of her inadequacy but publicly passing herself off as a success. When the twin strains of a first job and a love affair doomed to failure provoke a spiritual crisis Agnes sets out to save herself and all those around her.
