For more than thirty years, Sean Scully has produced vibrant paintings that are internationally collected and exhibited. Born in Dublin and raised in London, Scully lives and works in New York and has studios in Spain and Germany. His signature blocks of colour alluding to portals, windows, and walls make his work instantly recognisable.
Since 1998, a main focus of his attention has been Wall of Light, a stunning series of paintings, watercolours, pastels, and prints that confirms his position as one of the world's foremost abstract painters. In the earliest works in the series, Scully transcribes the interplay of light and shadow on the stacked stones of ancient ruins and architectural formations of Mexico. As the series continues, Scully moves beyond Mexico, documenting his responses to other climes and conditions.
