Stock Selection Strategies for Achieving a Balanced Portfolio
In this book, Martin Roth looks at how the professional investor finds success by choosing sectors and then seeking out the most attractive stocks within those sectors. He says investing in stocks across all sectors will give the investor a more solid performance from his/her investment. In examining sector investments, Roth looks at "theme investing", which is the purchase of stocks - cutting across many sectors - relating to a particular theme, such as dot.coms or biotech stocks.
Roth breaks down the stock market according to its sectors, and then discusses their performance. He also shows investors how to analyse sectors, including how to recognise the factors that are crucial in determining sector profits.
Roth breaks the book up into three parts. Part A looks at the basics such as: Why choose sector investing?; Sector investing and risk; and Different ways of making sectors. Part B looks at the 24 sectors classified by the ASX. Part C looks at other sectors and themes.
