In 1546 there were rumours that Henry VIII wanted to annul his marriage to Katheryn Parr and marry her close friend and lady in- waiting Katherine Willoughby, the dowager Duchess of Suffolk. Young, attractive, feisty, intelligent and devoutly religious, perhaps most importantly she had already given birth to two sons. The king even agreed to the arrest of Katheryn Parr on the grounds of heresy, but she successfully persuaded him of her innocence and charmed her way back into his affections.
