In August 1973, David McTaggart sailed his tiny boat "Vega" into a French nuclear weapons testing site at Mururoa Atoll and into history. His audacious and gutsy protest at the French government's continued nuclear testing became a global sensation and paved the way to McTaggart founding the world's most powerful environment organisation, Greenpeace International.
Over the next thirty years, McTaggart took on the world's rich and powerful using his own particular brand of controversy and fiery determination to transform Greenpeace into the international organisation it is today. In the process, he made a long list of friends and just a many enemies.
Utterly ruthless and driven, McTaggart imposed his vision through sheer force of will and personality, as he challenged the world into policing itself, battled tirelessly and vehemently for environmental causes and inspired future generations to take up his campaign.
His was a crusade that quite literally changed the world we live in, shedding light on environmental events, dragging the public - from the man in the street to world leaders - into his battle and ultimately turning a personal viewpoint into a global argument.
In this honest and excoriating autobiography, we see the man behind the cause and the personal demons that drove him. 'Shadow Warrior' tells the story of a man who fought hard, refused to play by the rules and didn't care who he crossed. It is the story of a man who looked at the world around him and decided it was not enough to sit back and do nothing. David McTaggart took a stand and here he explains why, how and the amazing impact one man can have on the world.
