A superb fighting soldier, Shan Hackett served with the Trans-Jordan Force, fought through North Africa and was involved in the formation of the LRDG, the SAS and Popski's Private Army. He went on to raise and command 4th Parachute Brigade at Arnhem, where he was wounded and captured. He escaped and got back to British lines. An intellectual and practical man, he retired to become Principal of King's College, London where he was revered by staff and students. AUTHOR: Roy Fullick served with the Rifle Brigade during the Second World War and after. He became a member of the Parachute Regiment and served in numerous theatres including Suez. He retired as a Lt Col and has written various books including, with Geoffrey Powell, Suez ? A Double War and three cookery books. He lives in North London. Illustrated
