A princess is chosen to fulfil the terms of an ancient treaty and finds herself travelling with an infamous monster slayer in this epic romantasy filled with legends and magical creatures
Long ago, the gods unleashed monsters to remind us of our insignificance.
But I didn't need a deity to tell me I was powerless. Being a princess had never been more than a performance.
Until the day an infamous monster hunter sailed to our shores. The day I married a stranger, signed a magical treaty, and set off across the continent to the most treacherous kingdom in all the realm.
That was the day I learned that not all myths are make-believe.
And that the only way to kill the monsters we fear was to become one . . .

The ending of this book had me looking into the abyss to try and work out what just happened. That being said, it was so good!
I love the grumpy/sunshine, and one horse tropes that were in it, and the plot twists, while predictable, were still enjoyable. The middle bit seemed to ramble a bit as they went on their quests, most of the action happening in the beginning or the end quarters. A lot of the middle parts are used to set the scene/history/mystery of the creatures and the nations. I like that they have just used the inquisitive nature of the FMC as the way to answer questions/add details that are relevant to the story - well when Mr Grumpy decides he wants to answer the questions.
My only problem now is waiting for the next book to be released. - Tanya (QBD)

As an avid reader of Perry's 'Edens' series, I went into this one with high hopes. For the first 100-150 pages, I was HOOKED. Then the storytelling slowed to a snails pace for what is essentially 200 pages before taking off again with an ending that left me wanting more.
While a tad predictable, Shield taps into the heart of a solid romantasy. Its got questionable narrators, intrigue and deceit, its even got a bit of a love triangle (its also got a grumpy sunshine dynamic that is *chefs kiss*). And the final 50 pages? I am dead, deceased, no longer living!
My initial thoughts had me questioning whether I enjoyed this one but when thinking back through it, its definitely growing on me - Natasha (QBD)
