When Christina Delaney flirts her way to the title of queen of the Chili Queens of San Antonio, Texas, her strait-laced family decides her scandalous behavior has dragged on long enough. They'll send her to her grandfather in England and the Earl of Stonehaven will teach Christina to behave. Plus, isn't is handy that old family friend, Cole Morgan, is making the trip, too, and will be able to provide escort.
Cole is going to England to locate one of the five surviving copies of the Republic of Texas' Declaration of Independence. He has neither the time nor inclination to babysit the brat. Then he realizes the brat he's always thought of as a sister has grown up. Christina is a beautiful, appealing young woman and Cole's feelings are no longer the least bit brotherly. The growing awareness between them leads to trouble as Christina takes English society by storm. However, a little scandal is nothing compared to the disaster that awaits when the leading candidate for her hand in marriage also becomes Cole's prime suspect in the theft of the historical document.
