Spring, 1939 - when Mr Oto arrives in the sleepy Georgian town of Salty Creek, he is soon to discover that it is an uncomfortable place for strangers. For while the kind-hearted Miss Anne proudly employs him as her gardener, some of her fellow residents respond with suspicion and prejudice.
