Sowerby Bridge

This excellent selection of old photographs shows the famous Yorkshire textile town of Sowerby Bridge, from its heyday of industrial importance through to post-industrial, late twentieth-century times. Fascinating scenes of everyday life are pictured; from children at school to the many activities that took place in and around the churches and from workers in factories to domestic views of home. Here are all the family-run shops that existed before we had supermarkets, the pubs and clubs on their one-day outings, the police and fire brigade at work, and a fine selection of portraits of Sowerby Bridge's heroes and heroines. As well as the old town centre, the area covered includes Sowerby, Triangle, Mill Bank and Norland.
