Though particularly popular with Glaswegians, these cheap fare night-time holiday trains (without sleeping cars) also ran from Edinburgh up to London and vice versa. Operational 1953-62 they were introduced to combat private coach companies' overnight Anglo-Scottish services, and make a profit for BR, achieving both objectives very successfully!
