Fourteen-year-old Lizzie inherits a quilt from the grandmother she never knew which tells the story of a slave girl. When her dreams and visions begin, and wounds appear on her wrists and ankles,, Lizzie comes to believe that she is the same slave girl - her great-great-grandmother - reborn.
So begins a quest to come to terms with the truth of her family's past, a past which has left scars on generations of its womenfolk.
