'Close your eyes and think of the whitest white there everwas. Whiter than the whitest cloud and brighter than the brightest star. That's how bright and white it was. And try, if you dare, to thinkof a cold so cold, that it was colder than the coldest cold from the wintriest of winters. So cold that the sea turned to ice and snow covered the land. Now, think of the darkest dark and the blackest black. There had never been a darker black, or a blacker dark, for that was what it was like under the ice-covered sea. This is where our story begins.'
Storlax is a story of intense adventures, endurance and tenacity, unity and fear, told with great humour, optimism and warmth. But it also serves to gently inform the reader, not just about the lives of the salmon, but also its plight at the hands of what our heroes come to know as 'The Shadows', the humans who threaten the salmon's world and their journey home.
Storlax was first published in Icelandic, in 2004, where it topped the children's bestseller list for many months. It has since been re-written and developed into the story as it is today.
