The first title in the 'Storymaze' series, this is a kind of visual Choose Your Own Adventure, and an extravaganza of storytelling. Using the book itself as a playground, it introduces us to four endearing characters: Mikey, Claudia, Nico and Icon. The text and comic-style illustration make this a terrific junior novel for younger readers, reluctant and the like. Themes include life, death , friendship, morality, epic adventure, aliens and space. This first book is about surfing, and contains heroes, parallel universes, blood, violence and stuff.
The 'Storymaze' series was originally conceived to play with the ideas of stories and where they come from. Stories are all around us and we all tap into them as we need them. They come from our collective conscious, from the cultures throughout the world and from the basic human qualities that unite us. A strong central narrative links the books in the series but there are also many hilarious and inventive diversions. The book itself is a maze of comic-strip storylines, flowing at their own pace and connecting every now and then.
