When a film company asks for a 'difficult' pony to appear in their new film, Swallow - Rowan's beautiful but very high-spirited pony - is everyone's first choice. But it is Rowan's talented friend Hugh who is picked to ride Swallow - not Rowan. And as Rowan watches Swallow put on a splendid performance for the cameras - throwing one enormous buck after another - she begins to have terrible doubts. Can she ever ride well enough to control her bold young pony?
