Jiminy is ready for a summer break; she's tired of law school, and has just about decided she doesn't want to devote her life to billable hours. So she decides to relax and regroup with her grandmother, Willa, in the small Southern town where she has lived for her whole life. Jiminy arrives, settles in, and befriends Bo, the nephew of her grandma's longtime housekeeper, Lyn. While their friendship begins platonically, they stir up the antipathies of many of the townspeople because Bo is African American, and Jiminy is white. Added to the mix is the fact that Jiminy discovers that she is the namesake of another Jiminy, Lyn's daughter, who was murdered at age 16, along with Lyn's husband - and the sheriff never bothered to find out who did the deed. Now Jiminy and Bo decide to try to solve the long-ago murder, and in the process, they turn the sensibilities and assumptions of this sleepy town on its head.
