This book is for bushwalkers and for lovers of Australian native plants. It is designed to help you get to know the plants that you will find along bush tracks in National Parks in the Sydney region.
It is for those who want to be able to learn about native plants, how to identify them simply, and where they can go in the Sydney region to see them.
The author does not set out to help you identify all the plants in the region, but describes those you are most likely to see and some that are worth stopping to search for. She tells you when they flower and the general features of the families to which they belong; also how you can distinguish them from others that look similar.
The bushwalks vary in length from 15 km to just 400 m. Some tracks are old favourites, others are new and little known, but all are well-maintained and well-defined. None could be described as difficult. The emphasis is on appreciation of the bushland and on learning to recognise the plants rather than on strenuous walking. Each of the ten walks is self-contained.
There are 144 alphabetically arranged colour plates that help you verify a plant's identity and in order that you can double check, a key to the walks where each plant illustrated can be found has been included below each plate. There is also a glossary of the meanings and derivations of the botanical names of the plants mentioned.
Three of the walks are particularly suitable for those with disabilities, for young children and for the elderly.
