Kicking goals, winning premierships – Alastair Lynch did it all. But his greatest victory was beating chronic fatigue syndrome.
At the prime of his AFL career, Alastair Lynch was sleeping 18 hours a day. He didn't know what was wrong with him. He couldn't play football. Worse, he thought he might never play again. But Alastair discovered that he had chronic fatigue syndrome, a condition suffered by over 120 000 Australians.
Alastair Lynch gave CFS sufferers a reason to believe. He did play football again – magnificently so. And in September 2004 he retired as one of the all–time greats. A 300–game triple premiership player with the Brisbane Lions, a member of the Fitzroy and Tasmanian Team of the Century, Alastair Lynch is a true champion.
This is the story of Alastair's fight, not just to play football but to be able to get out of bed every day and do what normal people do. And, more importantly, to be able to enjoy life with his family, and to remember never, ever, to take his health for granted again.
