The Way the English Language Works
The 'Bloomsbury Grammar Guide', an easy-to-use handbook which answers uncertainties in the English language, is divided into six parts: "Words and phrases" covers all parts of speech and nouns to interjections. "Sentences and clauses" details type of sentence, and sentence construction. "Word formation" sets out the many ways in which words are formed, from analogy to suffixes and prefixes. "Punctuation" provides a comprehensive list of where and how to use everything from the colon to the slash. "The Figures of speech and literary device" section defines terms from alliteration to zeugma, through clich and paradox. "Common errors" is an A - Z list of words often confused with each other. At the end, you can check your progress with a series of grammar exercises.
