How is it that some people manage to be thin naturally? We all know someone who eats more and exercises less than another, but still maintains a healthier body and weight. Meanwhile, millions of people are struggling to lose weight through conventional methods, and find themselves stuck in an endless cycle of losing and regaining the same 10 pounds. If all weight loss boils down to simple mathematics-calories in minus calories out-how is it possible that someone who eats more and exercises less could be thinner than the most conscientious dieter?
After ten years of rigorous research and investigation, Jonathan Bailor revealed the secrets of being skinny in his self-published book, The Smarter Science of Slim, which sold approximately 18,000 copies in ebook and print combined. Now fully updated and revamped with new content, including an action plan for eating and exercising, Bailor's ground-breaking The Calorie Myth offers a new model for weight loss. Contrary to the widely accepted calories in/calories out formula, Bailor demonstrates that the key to long-term weight-loss is in fact not the number of calories that we eat-but rather what kinds of calories we choose. In other words: The quality over quantity
Different foods have different effects on the body-some foods are used to repair tissue, boost brain power, and fuel our metabolism-while others are stored as fat. Bailor argues that the human body has a set point-the weight that our body naturally "wants" to be-and the hormones that regulate our metabolism also regulate this homeostatic mechanism. When we eat the right foods-plants, lean proteins, nuts and legumes-our body is easily able to achieve this homeostasis. And even when we eat more calories-as long as they're the right calories, our body naturally adjusts to burn the additional fuel. But when we eat poor-quality foods, such as refined foods, sugar, starches and fats,-this system becomes hormonally "clogged," which elevates our set point and prevents the body from burning extra calories-and even prompts it to hold onto fewer calories.
The Calorie Myth provides readers with a step-by-step weight loss program which includes a "SANEity" scale that determines which foods are optimal for weight-control, an eating plan, and an exercise program, based on the principles of high intensity interval training (HIIT), which allows us to spend less time in the gym, and achieve greater results.
