The Coincidence Makers

The first thing you should know is: there's no such thing as coincidence.

There are beings that watch over you. Some of us were like you, once. (Some of us were never like you at all.) Call us what you will, guardians, agents, sentinels or perhaps spirits, angels, demons. No matter how you think of us, we have one purpose. We are architects of chance, we make coincidences.

Every night, each Coincidence Maker receives a new coincidence to carry out: perhaps the random event that pushes a scientist over the brink of a breakthrough, or the first meeting of those destined to fall in love. We might be tasked with something as simple as spilling your coffee or as complex as getting you fired. Rarely, we are asked to kill... Of course, a Coincidence Maker always has the choice: fulfill the coincidence, or refuse. Although, those who refuse their coincidences are never heard from again.

So when an assignment of the highest level is slipped under the door one night, it's immediately obvious that the choice will have to be made. A choice that could change our understanding of coincidences, of fate, free will, and even perhaps, love itself...
