In his lifetime the public knew Kenneth Williams by turns as the genius comedian of the 'Carry On' films, the irascible star of theatre, the urbane wit of television, the raconteur without peer and, on occasion, the most outrageous show-off in the thespian firmament. Sadly, it was not until his suicide in April 1988 at the age of 62 that he was respected as a serious actor, revered as a spectacular wit and acclaimed as a man of erudition and learning.
The one book which was published by Kenneth Williams during his life which seemed to capture his fascination for the witty, wicked, and often malicious bon mot or discomforting invective, was his book 'Acid Drops'. Published nearly 20 years ago it became an immediate bestseller and has remained a favourite source of Williams' anecdotes and a definitive source of outrageous stories.
This new edition contains much material originally excised from the manuscript, some because it might offend the then living, some because it was, for the time, regarded as just too risque, and still more that there was simply no room to accommodate. Hence, 'The Complete Acid Drops'.
