In 1992 in Barcelona, Chris Boardman won the 4kms pursuit gold medal on a specially built Lotus superbike. Since then Boardman's name has become synonymous with excellence in cycling. Using his own experiences to illustrate his methods, Boardman charts his route to the top, from the moment he rode his first competitive bike to winning Olympic gold and leading the top French team in the Tour de France.
Boardman gives a detailed analysis of the different ingredients of his own success: technical expertise, physical stamina, mental agility, training diet, mechanics and tactics. Having won races of 4 to 244 kms, Boardman is in a unique position to compare the different disciplines of pursuit and world hour records on the track to road time trials and long-stage races.
There are chapters focusing on the Tour de France, the world hour record and on Boardman's own bikes, also practical information for cyclists of every level.
