A Novel.
A mysterious driver is following an unsuspecting motorist late at night. Who is the man? A detective? A psychopath? He is neither; he is Edward Rollins, a rich, handsome and well-bred account executive with a peculiar pastime: he is a voyeur who tails randomly selected cars into the night, recording the details of the sojourn on a hand-held cassette player.
When his target reaches its destination, Rollins goes back home, never to return - a tidy, self-contained event that constitutes, night by night, the sum total of Rollins's connection to the human race, or as much of a connection as his own dark family history will allow.
And so it goes until one night, when a seemingly random encounter places him at the centre of the unsolved decade-old murder of his beloved cousin and forces him to face the dark secrets of his Boston Bramin family.
